A Little More About NGHTMRE

NGHTMREHF3

On Thursday Jan. 21st, NGHTMRE makes his second Columbus appearance at Sway. Ticket sales range from $15-$500 and according to Eventbrite, tickets are selling hot!

Following the incredible performance at Haunted Fest in October, many are ecstatic for his show in January. The letters spelling NGHTMRE followed by the multicolored light show made everyone’s heart lift a little higher–no doubt his upcoming performance will give the same effect. The drop aligning perfectly with the spirits of the audience was also an unforgettable experience and is something to look forward to.

Read our awesome interview with NGHTMRE that took place at Haunted Fest 2015 here.

Still considered an up-and-coming artist, NGHTMRE has so far made an amazing reputation for himself. He is well-known for his mash ups and original tracks. His remix of “Live This Nightmare” is an all time personal favorite of mine and something I hope to experience live. Remixes such as “It’s Alright”, “Limelight”, and “Dum Dee Dum” have also won the hearts of many.

Although Sway is a drastic size reduction from the Ohio Expo Center, there are no doubts for the upcoming performance. Some say the smaller the venue, the greater the vibes! “It sucks that the venue is smaller, but I’m not too worried about it. I, as well as many of my friends, will have a good time, despite the change of space”, says student Kendall Coffey.

With doors opening at 10 p.m. on a Thursday, be sure to arrive with plenty of time to dodge the late night campus traffic! Fortunately the venue is indoors, so weather shouldn’t take a toll on the show. Sway and all of Columbus welcome you, NGHTMRE!

5 Tracks From NGHTMRE You Should Be Listening To Right Now

NGHTMRE_presspic

NGHTMRE has taken the dance music scene by storm this year. His signature bass style and intricate sound design have proven to be a recipe for success. He’s spent the better part of this year touring, and if you missed him at this year’s Haunted Fest you shouldn’t fret. NGHTMRE is coming to Sway in Columbus on January 21st, Mynt in Cincinnati on January 22nd, and Necto in Ann Arbor on January 26th (find your tickets here). Here’s five tracks that you should be listening to that’ll keep you hyped up until then:

5. Griz – Stop Trippin’ (NGHTMRE Remix)

Here’s a remix that NGHTMRE put out last month. The fusion of his signature sound with the funk that GriZ brings is a true match made in bass music heaven.

4. NGHTMRE & Boombox Cartel – Aftershock

Another newer one from NGHTMRE, “Aftershock” is a beautiful example of blending melody with intensity. Bass music has never sounded so elegant.

3. Flosstradamus & NGHTMRE – Lighters Up

NGHTMRE scored a big time hit with his collaboration with the trap gods that are Flosstradamus. This song is crazy. Enough said.

2. NGHTMRE & Slander – Gud Vibrations

“Gud Vibrations” was an instant classic. The Nuclear Bonds EP that NGHTMRE and Slander released was full of hits, and it was clear that both of these artists were going to go places.

1. NGHTMRE – Street (and Street VIP)

All I wanted for Christmas was new NGHTMRE, and new NGHTMRE was what I got. Street was NGHTMRE’s most highly anticipated release to date, and it received support from just about every DJ in the world. The VIP takes the original and adds a whole new flavor to it.

Remember, NGHTMRE will be in Columbus on January 21st, Cincinnati on January 22nd, and Ann Arbor on January 26th.

A-Trak Slated to Slay at Sway

atrak

As a DJ who has won several world titles, only the most epic of performances can be expected of A-Trak, as his current tour makes a stop at Sway in Columbus next month. A-Trak’s reliable track list is full of methodic, building bass lines and highly-contagious melodies but also big sound club bangers worthy of a few ear-gasms like “We All Fall Down”.

His latest releases seem to blur the lines between electronic, dance, and pop with house influences marching masterfully to each clean chord progression. This should be no surprise by the guy who commonly speaks out against pigeonholing artists into genres. What matters is that his technique is on fleek- as the cool kids would say- and even the most mild EDM enthusiasts (hello Beliebers) will find something to latch on to.

A-Trak is slated to play Jan. 2 downtown at a newer space on the scene, Sway. The part tapas lounge, part nightclub has had a steady stream of reputable DJ’s spin including Eric Prydz and Sidney Sampson. Michael Mercer, Director of Operations and Marketing at Sway, said A-Trak has brought in the largest “day one” ticket sales since opening; impressive with everything going on around New Years Eve and that weekend.

For avid A-Trak listeners, myself included, here’s to hoping he brings his signature scratching to Ohio. Watch his YouTube channel original “Short Cuts” videos to get up to speed on the mind-blowing madness that is his undeniable skill set below. A personal favorite is Episode 8: Beat Steady where he rips apart “Beats Knockin” by Jack U then sews it back together with the agility and precision of a master tailor. That’s one bad ass seamstress. “Landline” is another scratch-heavy hit that only A-Trak can be accountable for, as his transitions are virtually seamless.

A-Trak as a whole is such an amalgam we may even hear a hint of trap or full-on hip hop to his set (he has, after all, work with Yeezus himself Kayne West). You never know with the DJ and yet you do know all at the same time…make sense? Expect songs you can sip on all night like a high-quality liquor of your choosing but also what I call “treadmill tracks” which you can take straight to the dance floor.

NGHTMRE And His ‘Lighters Up’ Tour Is Coming To Ohio

Lightersuptour_admat Columbus web

NGHTMRE has been creating a huge buzz in the bass music scene since his debut set at EDC Las Vegas this summer. With his crazy, screeching sounding synths and unique snare sounds he has made a rapid climb since his first appearance. Working with some of the top artists in the game, there is no sign of slowing down for this guy anytime soon. Read our awesome interview with NGHTMRE after he absolutely destroyed Haunted Fest this past Halloween here.

Together, NGHTMRE and SLANDER released an EP called Nuclear Bonds and has been a great kickstart to NGHTMRE’S expanding popularity. He also just recently remixed the funk master GRiZ’s “Stop Trippin” into a festival trap banger to get everyone up and dancing:

There is already a lot of talk and excitement on his “Lighters Up” tour that is coming and bringing some crazy bass lines and hard 808 kicks. I highly recommend you catch him when he’s at one of these two locations:

The Life Backstage: NGHTMRE Interview At Haunted Fest 2015

NGHTMRE_presspic

We had the chance to catch the incredible NGHTMRE at last month’s Haunted Fest, Ohio’s biggest Halloween Party on OSU’s campus. One of the hottest acts in bass music today, NGHTMRE’s momentum is on an astronomical pace towards the top. About to embark on his own headlining tour, we were so thankful to catch up with one of our personal favorite artists before his career really begins to take flight. Co-producing and touring with some of the hottest names in dubstep/bass music: Slander, Flosstradamus, Datsik, Zomboy, Flux Pavilion (to name a few), the future is going to be very bright for NGHTMRE. Also keep your eyes peeled for new releases coming up on Mad Decent Records.

“There’s no time for sleep when NGHTMRE is in the mix.” [Diplo]

Who, or what, is NGHTMRE?

I want NGHTMRE to be a few things. First off, it’s music that I love. I try to just focus on making music that I really feel passionate about. I think when you do that, you will see a much more genuine appreciation and reaction from fans.

I also want NGHTMRE to be a brand that represents something more. I want to be an inspiration for people who want to follow their dreams, but are scared to take their first steps out into the unknown. That’s why I’ve developed the crystal ball as my logo. When people think of a crystal ball they think of ‘seeing the future’. I want people to realize that every single person in the world has the ability to create their future and create their own happiness. I want NGHTMRE to encourage people who might be in a job or part of their life where they are unhappy to take steps towards fulfilling their dreams.

Your Diplo & Friends Guest Mix is filthy, and a great example of a NGHTMRE DJ set. A Diplo & Friends Mix basically gives you a golden ticket; a known gold standard that produces future success. Have any amazing doors been opened since the release of that mix?

Well, everything has been moving really quickly since the release of “Street”. Being able to finally go on my own headlining tour has been absolutely amazing and I’m so excited for the future. As for the mix, I’m not sure if it specifically has opened any doors but the feedback from everyone has been incredible! I’ve also got some HUGE collaborations coming up because of it that I can’t mention yet that may have been a result of the mix.

What’s your favorite track to play at the moment?

One of my favorites is “The Hills (RL Grime Remix)”. When I first heard the song I really liked it, but when I heard it played out live I knew it was a smash! Whenever I play it in my set it gets such a good reaction and brings such positive energy to the crowd, he really killed it on that one.

What was the last concert you attended for pleasure?

I went to see Porter Robinson Live after my set at Moonrise Festival this year. It was absolutely incredible and inspiring. I’ve always looked up to him and seeing that live performance really encouraged me to keep pushing the boundaries or dance music

Earlier this year, Skrillex dropped “Street,” unreleased at the time, during his Ultra set and you seemed geeked about it. What are some other moments that have stood out for you in your career?

This was definitely one of the best moments of my year. Another one was my set at Lollapalooza. It was my 5th show in 4 days so I was extremely tired, the set got moved back due to weather, and we had no idea how many people would actually show up for my set. Then when the time came my crowd grew from 500 to 8000 in a matter of minutes. The energy was incredible and its a moment I will never forget.

Are we going to see the “Street” VIP mix release anytime soon?

Next month! I’ll be releasing it following “Lighters Up” with Flosstradamus

You’ve got an intense tour schedule until the end of the year, have you been writing anything while on the road? What’s your plan once you get a break?

Yeah I’ve actually gotten pretty good at writing music with nothing but my laptop. I didn’t think it would happen but I’ve kind of gotten used to writing music on airplanes, in airports, in my hotel, and wherever I can find a minute to write down my ideas! Whenever I am at home I always schedule studio time too. Working in a nice space like that is always better for creativity than in a busy airport.

If you could make a song with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?

I think it would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith. They had such an influence on me and the music I listened to growing up. To work with them would be unreal.

Haunted Fest Columbus is only days away, and it’s gearing up to be Ohio’s biggest party of the year. Boasting acts like NGHTMRE, Martin Garrix, Snails, Cash Cash, and Pierce Fulton, a billing of this caliber just doesn’t happen in the midwest.

We think it sums up Halloween perfectly, and packs some of the hardest hitting tracks of the year. Zeds Dead Is As Good As It Gets… And They’re Headlining Haunted Fest Dallas

zedsdead3Second year Haunted Fest headliner and Canadian electronic duo Zeds Dead is as good as it gets. Masters of all genres and tied to none, there really isn’t anything these guys can’t do. Their original productions are constantly fresh and exciting, their remixes are always a fun new take on a great song to be introduced to, their DJ sets are eclectic and high energy; I don’t have enough nice things to say about Zeds Dead.

Always expert showmen, last year they rocked the packed hall of The Ohio Expo center in spacemen costumes. Your EDM caught up with the pair as well as Arty and Audien while at the show for a Halloween inspired talk. Read the triple Your EDM interview here.

In 2014 they were hot off the release of their amazing Somewhere Else EP. Since then, they have released an album of remixes from that EP that are very popular and still played out today. Within the last 6 months they have done mixes for gold standard Diplo and Friends, Triple J, and NEST HQ; signifying everyone who knows anything knows Zeds Dead is unstoppable.

“Canadian bass superstars. Great friends, huge artists. Zeds Dead, for me, are the ones to watch for 2015.” [Diplo on Zeds Dead]
